CARAVAN AND RV OWNERSHIP CONTINUES TO GROW
It’s common knowledge that Australians love the great outdoors. Recent research indicates that this is truer now than ever before. 2020 report insights show that caravan and RV ownership continues to grow. This is no surprise due to international borders shut and Aussies made to travel nationally. Still keen to travel and feed the travel bug Aussies have opted to trade passports for RVs, hitch up and explore what their own backyard has to offer.
The recently released 2020 Caravan and Campervan Data Report highlights leading recreational vehicle trends across Australia. The report paints a positive picture for RV ownership, showing strong growth across caravans and campervans.
The caravan and camping sector became Australia’s most popular holiday choice in 2019, however economic conditions continue to overshadow the manufacturing industry, which remains complex despite seeing record highs in registrations and caravan and camping trips.
Caravan Industry Association of Australia –State of the industry 2020
Key insights include:
- 741,569 combined caravan & campervan registrations
- 4.2% increase on the previous year (30,183 vehicles)
- Queensland has the largest fleet (26%)
- Bundaberg, Queensland has the highest combined number of caravan and campervan registrations
Drawing upon ABS 2019 Motor Vehicle Census data, the report is generated by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, in collaboration with BDO. It’s important to note that the data and findings are from the 2019 calendar year, not 2020. Given the boom of domestic holidays and caravan and RV ownership in 2020, it’s probable that next year’s report will highlight even further growth.
