Best Beachfront Campsites in Queensland
You could spend months on end exploring Queensland’s breathtaking beaches and you’d never get sick of them. From South-East Queensland right up the Far Tropical North, there are countless beaches for RVers to fall in love with. What’s particularly amazing though, is when you find that epic beachfront campsite where you have the ocean quite literally on your doorstep. Here are our 5 favourite beachfront campsites in Queensland.
Cape Hillsborough
The Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park has spots that are on the absolute beachfront and just a few metres away from the sand so you can wake up, step out of your RV and be on the beach within seconds. There are beautiful swimming spots and hikes within walking distance, so you won’t have to pack up your campervan, motorhome or caravan whenever you decide to venture out. What’s special about staying on the beach at Cape Hillsborough though, is waking up to the spectacular sight of local kangaroos and wallabies on the beach at sunrise for their morning feed. We’ll bet you haven’t seen anything like it before!

Moreton Island
Camping on Moreton Island will leave you feeling like you’ve found paradise. Imagine waking up a few steps from the beach and seeing nothing but white sand, blue sea and sky in every direction. That’s the experience you get when you go camping on Moreton. The added benefit is that the large island landscape allows for spacious, wide-spread camping spots. Prior to making your way onto the island, be sure to stock up on supplies as there’s only one small shop on the island with limited options.

Stradbroke Island
When it comes to Straddie, there are a few beachside camping options. You can opt for one of the campsites that have amenities if you’re keen for a hot shower and somewhere to plug your RV in. The only downside here is that you’re not likely to get a beachfront spot, though you’ll still only be a short one or two minute walk from the sea. Otherwise, if you’re happy to rough it, head to Main Beach, which is a 38km stretch of sand and uninterrupted ocean views. Trust us, you’ll be in awe!
4WD required: varies by campsite
1770
The town of 1770 is a quaint coastal town, halfway between Bundaberg and Yeppoon. If you’re road tripping up the Queensland coast, we definitely recommend stopping here for a couple nights (Agnes Water, the next town over, is also a must-see). The local 1770 campground is located right on the beach in the middle of town, just make sure you book early if you want a spot on the absolute beachfront. What makes camping on the beach so spectacular in 1770 is watching the sunset in the evenings from the comfort of your home on wheels. The sky often lights up various shades of pink, purple and orange, and because of where the town is positioned, it’s one of the only spots on the entire East Coast where you can watch the sunset directly over the water.

Cape York
If you’ve decided to hit the road and head to the northernmost tip of Australia, get ready to see some stunning beaches. If you head to Punsand Bay, there’s powered and unpowered sites that are a stones throw from the beach and offer uninterrupted views of the sea and the sand. When planning a trip here, it’s important to research the road conditions and make sure you’ll be able to reach your destinations. Depending on where you’re coming from, Cape York is often inaccessible for most of the wet season.
